Compared to earlier Microsoft e-mail server applications, Exchange Server 2003 offered enhanced disaster recovery and better anti-virus and anti-spam protection. It also offered enhanced filtering options including Intelligent Message Filter, a Microsoft add-on that used heuristic techniques to block messages or direct them to the “Junk E-Mail” folder in Microsoft Outlook clients.
